Show Forest plagued by lightning, fires result "Lightning and "red" flag weather : conditions have been plaguing- the -Ashley National Forest area the past few days, causing three fires, in three days. According to Robert (Bob) Chandler, Ashley fire dispatcher, the largest fire was in the Blanchett Park area and was : in the mop up stages Friday. The fire started Tuesday of last week at about 4 p.m. among lodge pole pine ; trees in the Dry Fork drainage area. It was under control by Wednesday. The fire occurred in a roadless area about 18 miles northwest of Vernal. Approximately 24 fire fighters were transported to the scene by helicopter . in two crews. The other fires reported : were small blazes quickly extinguished. ex-tinguished. At the present time said Mr. Chandler Chan-dler there is a fire crew and super- : visory people in Boise, Idaho assisting with a 960 acre fire. Containment was expected Monday night, he said. There are also two truck managers at a fire in Prescot, Arizona helping with a fire there, there. |
