Show TOpen Letter To Springville Citizens Did you feel the EARTHQUAKE that hit Spring-ville last week? Maybe it didn't hit you, but it certainly did me and my family. I am referring to the recent shakeup in the City Recorder's Office, at which time I received my dismissal as Assistant City Clerk. For the past one-and-one-half years, I have worked as an appointive appoin-tive Assistant Clerk in connection with the elective two-day a month Treasurer Position. After the recent re-cent election, in which I was not re-elected to the elective Treasurer Treasur-er position, it was my understanding- that I, along with the head clerk would retain my appointive position. Therefore, we were greatly surprised last week to re 's ceive our notice of dismissal and the knowledge that we are to be replaced by two men. Why were we being dismissed? This has been asked by many citizens. citi-zens. That was our most insistant request. Surely it wasn't because we were being overpaid. I was receiving $130 per month and the man who is replacing me would receive ?175 per month. The head clerk, with eight years experience, had been receiving $160 in comparison com-parison with $200 per month to be paid the other new employee. NEITHER OF THESE MEN ARE CITY TAXPAYERS. THE ONE REPLACING ME IS A SINGLE MAN, WHILE I AM THE BREADEARNER FOR MYSELF AND THREE CHILDREN. I asked why I was being released, re-leased, but was never given a satisfactory sat-isfactory answer. I feel that the performance of my work was satisfactory at all times. I do not typewrite, but my work did not require it. My work involved posting, post-ing, serving the public and the billing of statements as they were presented to me. All books were audited quarterly by State Auditors. Audi-tors. I have enjoyed my work with the public and thank everyone for the courtesy they have shown me. Sincerely Ruby Twitchell |
