Show INCREASE SHOWN IN UTAH WINTER WHEAT Utah shows a 4 per cent increase in the acreage of winter wheat sown in 191S. according to a government report received yesterday by M. M. Justin, field agent in Utah and Nevada for tho federal fed-eral bureau of crop estimates. The total acreage is 172,000, against 16o,000 in 19J7. x This comparatively small increase, the report says, reflects the large increase in spring wheat reported last spring. Much land that would have lain fallow for seeding this fail was sown to spring wheat. T'ne cold spell in November made farmers unwilling lo risk high-priced seed on newly plowed ground. Rve acreage is reported to have increased in-creased about COOO acres. This increase is larger relatively than that sown by the country as a whole. Condition is low, due to the dry weather in the southern part of the stale. Fall plowing is reported only 00 pet-cent pet-cent as far along as usual. This Is due mainlv to the drouth in the south and the shortage ot labor. However, many of the higher sections were hindered by cold weal her and snow. |
