Show GLASS GIVES HINT TO CHARITY SEEKERS WASHINGTON, Dec. 18. Secretary of the Treasury Carter Glass, in a statement tonight, requested charitable organ iza? tlons seeking funds by public subscriptions subscrip-tions to refrain from making any suggestion sug-gestion to the public that they will accept ac-cept Liberty bonds or war savings stamps unless they intend to use these securities securi-ties as endowment funds to be held for permanent investment. Mr. Flass said that in appealing for Liberty bonds and war savings stamps, the organizations seemed to overlook the fact that so long as the government must sell additional securities, the taking of bonds of previous issues by charitable organizations or-ganizations and the consequent resale of such bonds on the open market has a tendency to depress the price. This, Mr. Glass said, makes it more difficult for the government to obtain the money it needs upon reasonable terms. |
