Show BTH SOUTH SPUR TRACK IS OPPOSED Delegation Appears Before City Commission to Pro-' test Project. Further protest from a delegation of interested in-terested pruperty owners was heard yesterday yes-terday by the city commission against the laying of a spur track on Ninth South street, giving access to Walker's field. The latest protest was occasioned by the action of the commission in granting an amendment to the original franchise, which was also protested last spring. The amendment allows the spur to turn north instead of south from Ninth South into West Temple street. This amendment defeated the purpose of the protestants to force the matter into court through an option obtained on ground that the track must have crossed if it turned into West Temple street to the south. Among those taking issue with the latest action of the commission in granting the amendment were Attorney Ray Van Ontt." Charles Tyng and K. M. Asliton. The chief argument advanced is that the presence of the spur track will depreciate the properly of the neighborhood neighbor-hood as residence property. A. II. Cowte j was before the commission In approval of I the commission's action in granting the i amendment, saying that he owned prop-1 prop-1 erty that would be affected and that he did not fear depreciation. He argued that only by increase of trackage could the citv grow. Attorney Van Cott argued that Salt Lake now has much more trackage than is needful to a city of far greater population. popu-lation. The commission took no formal action in the matter. - resolution was received by the commission com-mission which constitutes a joint request from the soldiers' and sailors' employment employ-ment commission and the United States emplovment service committee for Information Infor-mation as to the extent of public work that Salt T,ake may undertake in the coming year, so affording possible employment em-ployment for returning men who have been in the government's service during the war. An ordinance was enacted incorporating the health orders that have been Imposed durinsr the Influenza epidemic, making possible prosecution under the ordinance of any persons who ignore the orders. |
