Show CITIZEN READY TO STEP 10 BREACH Formulate Plans for Military Mili-tary Training for Nation's Na-tion's Defense. Seventy-five enthusiastic and patriotic patri-otic citizens of Salt Lake gathered last night at the Commercial club to formulate formu-late plans for the dissemination of military mili-tary knowledge which will prove of inestimable in-estimable value in the event they are called upon to defend the honor of the United States in a war with Germany. Those present responded in answer to a call made by the committee of the citizens' citi-zens' training camp, and represented but a small portion of those who have acknowledged their desire to serve the country. The meeting was presided over by Carl Badger, and Dr. J. U. Giesy acted as secretary. An address was made by Captain Eugene Santchi. lie impressed upon his audience the value at this time of a. knowledge of military tactic. Upon recommendation of a committee appointed at last week's meeting, it was decided to eliminate the rifle practice prac-tice of the Citizens' Rifle club, which organization will be formed into a class! of military instruction, lectures to be j given them each week by officers of! the United States army. These lectures will be for the purpose of instructing the members in order for them to qualify quali-fy as officers in any emergency in which volunteer forces may be necessary, or to qualify for commissions in the reserve re-serve corps. 1'orty members signed up for instruction, instruc-tion, and a large number of men signed for the State Rifle & Revolver club for target practice. Captain J. O. French of the Seventh infantry, United States armv, was another an-other speaker. He informed the men they could now make application and take immediate examinations at Fort uougias n tney wisnea to necome orn-cers orn-cers in the reserve corps. This will ob-1 ob-1 viate the necessity of applying to the : western department of the United I States army at San Francisco, and, as i Captain French stated, is solely for ex-I ex-I pediency. The age limit will be 45 , years, and applicants can be eligible ; at the age of 22. Secretary Giesy announced last night that there is in view at this time a i block of 800 men ready and anxious to join in the movement, and that when there is a call made the number will : be augmented to more than 2000. i There will be another meeting next week, the programme for that occasion to be announced later. |
