Wagner, Democratic Dem-ocratic leader of the senate, who was born in Prussia, interpreted as "the vilest and most serious charge that can be made against an American citizen,'7 has stirred legislative circles almost as much as in the days preceding the impeachment im-peachment of Governor William Sulzer in 1913. Mayor Mitchel 's statement, made last night in New York, was quoted here as follows: fIt would apepar as though somebody some-body is working in the interests of Germany Ger-many rather than in the interests of the United States. Do you want me to tell you whom I mean? I will tell you. I mean 'Bob' Wagner." Senator Wagner introduced a resolution resolu-tion today to summon the mayor before the senate to substantiate his allegation. allega-tion. Consideration of the resolution was deferred until Monday. Senator Wagner was greeted with applause when he entered the chamber, an unusual occurrence oc-currence during a senate session. |
