Show JOSIAH COPLEY IS " TO-BE BURIED HERE Body Will Reach City Today, and In- torment Is to Be in Mt. Olivet i Cemetery. The body of Joslah Copley, who died in LonK Hcach, Cal., on July 1. will reach Salt L,alie t'ity today, after which funeral services will be held and interment made in Jit. Olivet cemetery. Mr. Copley, who was the father of Mrs. James A. 1-Josle of tills city, was a widely known man. He was born at Kltannini?, I'a., in l:36 and educated at Amherst college. At the age of 16 years ho was employed as niKht editor of the I'ittsburg (1'a.J Gazeue, under his father, who was for many years associated with that paper. Mr. Copley also served in the Civil war, enlisting- at Springfield. III., in the Twenty-first regiment. He was taken prisoner at Chlckaniauga in and was in prison for seventeen mofths, most of tbe time at AndersonvlUe. He was released In time to save Ids life whilo he was near death from scurvey. In 18U0 Mr Copley went to Kansas, where he was prominent in railroad circles cir-cles for a number of years. For twenty-two twenty-two years he was in the employ of the Union I'aciric. Later he was connected with the Kansas City Cazette. Because of failing health he removed to Long Beach, Cal., three years ago. Mr. Copley is survived by his widow, three sons and one daughter; also by two sisters, Airs. Mary Copley Thaw, mother of Harry K. Thaw, and Miss Jane Copley of Pittsburg, Pa. The funeral Rervices for Mr. Copley have been delayed, owing to tiie fact that Mrs. Copley has been unable to make the trip to Salt Lake. The body was embalmed in Los Angeles immediately after death. |
