Show HOT SPELL BREAKS AS CLOUDS APPEAR Relief Comes to Sweltering Kansas After Heat of Sixteen Days; Cool Winds Elow. KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 1. The six- i teen-day heat spell, in which tempera -' lures have ranged just below the 1 00- ; mark, was definitely broken today, the United States weather forecaster announced an-nounced here. Under a cloud bank that gave promise of light local rainstorms, with a refreshing breeze from the northeast, north-east, the thermometer stood at 7i degrees at 10:30 this morning, after yesterday's maximum of 99, which caused four deaths in this city. The clouds, according to the forecaster, extended over northern M issouri and northeastern Kansas, with general rains falling in Nebraska and some parts of Iowa. The sun is still glaring down upon southern Kansas, southern 'Missouri and Oklahoma. |
