Show SUBMARINE FIGHT WITH BRITISH BOAT IS UNSUCCESSFUL MONTREAL, Aug. 1. The British steamer Clodmoor, just In port from Genoa. Ge-noa. Italy, had a battle In the Mediterranean Mediter-ranean sea with a German or Austrian submarine, her commander, Charles Hunter, reported today. He believes he left the submarine in a sinking condition. The Clodmoor plainly showed the marks' of the submarine's gun II re. The steamship steam-ship Is armed with one gun for defensive purposes, and It was with this, her cap- tain said, that he shelled the submarine , when she attacked, anrl so seriously dam- I aged her that she drew oft in apparently a sinking condition.
