Show STRENGTH OF TILE TO UNDERGO TESTS City Holds Up Amendment of Ordinance Fending Eesults, but Permission for Euilding of School Is Given. Vntil tests determining the factors of strength and safety of the terra cotta hollow tile proposed to be used in the construction of the Liberty and Forost Dale schools are made, the amende! ordinance ordi-nance intended to provide for the use of. such material in school buildings will be held In abeyance. This decision was reached by the city commission yesterday after a conference with Geome W. Snow, chief of the bureau of mechanical inspection. inspec-tion. When Mr. Snow appeared before the commission yesterday he explained that he ha1 refused to issue the permits requested re-quested by the board of education for the reason that the ordinance does not contemplate the use of hollow tile in building construction. He said that it devolved upon the board of education to prove that hollow tile is sufficiently st.-ong and durable to insure its safety in construction, con-struction, and that he would require practical prac-tical proof before issuing permits covering such type of construction. It was stated to the commission that experiments and tests are now be ins made of the hollow tile at the Univet slty of I! tali, and it was decided to await the results of such tests before amending the building ordinance. The city commission, however, decided to allow the board of education to proceed pro-ceed with the school building ,vork, though the ordinance Is held in abeyance. |
