FIRST SACKER MAKES DOUBLE AT SECOND Peculiar plays in baseball 1 Well, how about this one in which a first bnEoman executed a double play at second base? The Giants and Reds were staging a combat. Lobert, the first man up in the inning under discussion, doubled. Brainerd followed and sent a bounder to the Red pitcher. The pitcher turned to throw to third and then saw that Lobert had turned around and was well on his way back to second. So the pitcher heaved the ball at Mollwitz, the Reds ' first baseman. However, Brainerd had rounded first and was half way to second by that time. Mollwitz was going to throw to second in an attempt to catch Brainerd Brain-erd when he saw Lobert also dashing for' the same bag. Mollwitz, sensing a inixup. held the ball, running with it toward second. Lobert slid back into the second sack inst at the same moment that Brainerd 'slnl into it. There was a collision and both men rolled away from the bag. Lobert bring whirled onto the grass back of second. By this time Mollwitz had arrived on the scene, walked over to where Lobert and Brainerd were sprawled and tagged out both.
