Another of his famons daughters is Brown Nell's Princess, grand champion 2-vear old heifer, with an official record o? 59"?. 5 pounds of milk and 707.9 pounds of butter but-ter in one year. Reasons why the Winder herd has reached such a high state of productiveness productive-ness aro easy to explain. Several years ago its owners set a standard for cows which required each member of the hrd to produce at least 4'Q pounds of but- ; ter per year. ?!nce that time any cows j that hav failed to produce that amount have been taken out of the herd. According to Mr. Winder, the calves and young heifers are in great demand j and he is constantly in receipt of requests re-quests for dairy cattle by owners of herd" who have a desire to increase the efficiency of their dairies. Whenever When-ever there is a surplus, the calvps find readv sale and command bet wren $75 and 2o0 per head. In the breeding of dairy cattle Mr. Winder has taken an interest which has I aJmost become a hobby. Tn fast, his interest in this industry is so pronounced that he finds it a pleasure at all times to discuss the siibiect with other" interested in-terested and aid them in their work. - i third; special A. first; special B. first; special D. first and third ; special E, first; special H. first. If all championships, blue ribbons and red ribbons awarded at the Utah state fair in the livestock division were segregated seg-regated and counted it would probably be found that the exhibits of J. R. Allen Al-len carried off the greatest number. With twelve head of Percheron horses entered, he carried off uractically all of the big prizes in that division, while his sheep and hog exhibits fared as well. Tn the sheep division Mr. Allen had about 100 animals on display. Every award for Lincolns, thirty in all, went to Mr. Allen's exhibit. These include the grand championships for ram and ewe of any age. Mr. Allen's stock likewise like-wise captured every' award lor Cots-wolds, Cots-wolds, twentv-four "all told, and every award for Hampshire Downs a total of twenty-ope. Both the latter inclnded championship prizes for rams and eweB. In the horse department he was also a heavy winner, especially in the Percheron class. Among his prizes arj.1 the following: Stallion, first and fourth; three years and under four, first; two years, first; mare, three years, first, third and fourth: fifly, two vcars, first; fillpi one year, first; 'stallion with get. first; mare with her colts, first and ,r. H. Seely of Mount Pleasant, Utah, is one of the largest exhibitors in the livestock division at this year's fair. With his dairy cattle, Mr Seoly captured fortvfour prizes and with h.s sheep he captured the prand championship for a fiambouillctte ram first and second on the at'e class and" lust for a yearling. Stockmen consider this an excellent sho-wing, as Mr. Sceley won more prizes than he had cattle entered, while ho fared equally well in the sheep depart; ment. Some of the prizes wou by Mr. Seely 's exhibit are as follows: Bull, three years, secoud and third; bull, two years, second and third; bull senior yearling, second and third; bull, senior calf, second and fourth; bull! junior calf, second, third and fourtu; cow, three years, second and third-heifer, third-heifer, senior yearling, third and fourth' heifer, junior yearling, fourth and fifth' heifer, senior calf, third and fourth; heifer, junior calf, first, fourth anri fifth: graded herd, first and third; breeders' young herd, third: breeders'' calf herd, second: four animals, aiiv-age, aiiv-age, either sex, get. of one sire, second and fourth; two animals, any age. either sex, product of one cow, third and fifth. a |
