Show SEE PREPABES j TD SHIP HIGH-GRADE Ridge & Valley Mining1 Ore Worth From $1800 to $2000 a Carload. Within the next few days the second consignment ot ore l'runi the new strike , 1 at the ankee Consolidated mine will ! be for w ai dcil to the smelter, and Superintendent Su-perintendent Lewis Merriiu an expects this second lot of ore lo carry not less ! than -UU ounces silver, about 1 U per , cent 1 lead and perhaps ur $10 in i old. The first sliijmient, sent out a ; week or more ago, was of a lower ! grade because of the fact that it had j been mined as the wiuze was being ' ;Mink, which made it rather difficult to i keep the ore clean, according to the! Fnreka Reporter. Mr. Alemman states that he is using only a couple of men on this ore, i'oi the reason that all waste material has to be . handled by an ' ' armstrong ' ' hoist, but that he is driving a tunnel which will tap the ore body at greater depth and furnish an outlet for fhe waste. The tunnel is expected, to reach the vein' matter almost any round of shots, but about 125 feet of work will be needed to make connection with the winze, and after that the Yaukce will I be in shape to send out a nice tonnage I of this high-grade silver ore. j A new piece of work has just been started on the east side of the slope at i the Yankee, where a tunnel "is being driven for the purpose of encountering the Beck Tunnel vein. This new work , is being done fully 1000 feet from the point where the re'eent strike was made, but it is iu a part of the property that Superintendent Merriman lias been .desirous .de-sirous of prospecting for several years. Occasional shipments of high-grade zinc are being" sent out by the lessees who are busy in the older workings of the Yankee. The recent shipments of this ore carried from42 to 43 per cent zinc, the last lot to be placed on the market having been1 taken from the lease of the Mel lor brothers. Encouraging conditions exist in the lower workings of the Gemini and the Ridge & Valley mines, according to Superintendent John H. McChrystal, and at the latter property, some exceptionally excep-tionally nice silver-lead ore is now being be-ing mined. This ore will carry about 50 per cent lead and twenty ounces in silver, together with other values, which make it worth in the neighborhood neighbor-hood of $1800 to $2000 per carload. The big pumping plant is slowly un-wateriug un-wateriug the Gemini and Ridge & Valley Val-ley mines, and the water has now beeu lowered to the 700 level. As the workings work-ings of the Gemini extend to a depth of 1000 feet, there is still 200 feet of ground to be uuwatered, and there is said to be an excellent showing of ore on the lowest levels of the mine. Only a small amount of the high-grade high-grade which was recently encountered in the Ridge & Valley has been mined, but the workings are fast being put in condition for the economical extraction of this product, and then the property will no doubt commence shipping at the rate of 200 tons a week. Within the next three or four weeks the new 250-horsepower engine will be delivered at the Eagle & Blue Bell mine, according to a message which was received here , a day or two ago, a n d by that time e v e ry t h i n g will be in readiness for the installation of the new machinery. Foundations are already al-ready in place, and the construction of the new gallows frame is nearly finished. fin-ished. Much of the electrical- equipment equip-ment has already been delivered at the mine, and the electricians are already busv doing their part of the work. There is talk of the Eagle paying a dividend during the coming month, but the local officials of the company are reticent regarding this matter. |
