Show Pictures No Longer j Grace Elevator Handsome lithographs of Taft and Sherman havo disappeared from tho elevator at tho City and County building, build-ing, and thereby hangs a story of short but sharp contest ior supremacy between be-tween County Commissioner John C. Mackay and Councilman Thomas It. Black, in which tho latter was tho master. Tho pictures were placod in tho elevator ele-vator at Commissioner Mackay 's orders, or-ders, it is told, but tho display of favoritism fa-voritism offended even partisans of tho candidates and complaint was made to Mr. Black, who is a member of tho building committee of tho council. By telephone Mr. Black notified tho building build-ing engineer to removo tho pictures, but was told that thero was objection on Mr. Mackay 's part. "Tho city furnishes tho power that runs tho elevator, and T am a member of tho building committee of tho council," coun-cil," thundered Mr. Black, "and if thoso pictures aro not taken down I will have tho power shut off." The pictures came down. |
