The ''Bankers' colony", at .the San Francisco Fran-cisco jaiL was todav increased" by two more members. A. F. Mart el, president of tho Market Street bank,- which is now in the hands of a receiver, and W. B. Nash, cashier of tho bank, were tho now comers, within a few hours tho police po-lice expect to add-a third. Louis Q. Haven, Ha-ven, a former cashier of tho institution. All throe were indicted by the grand jury yesterday ou tho -chargo of having hav-ing made false reports to the state bank commission as to tho actual condition of tho Market Street bank. Martel and Nash, arrested last night, spent tho night in tho city prison, but were turned over to tho sheriff today and transferred to the county ,iail. Haven has" not yet been apprehended b' the police. It is beliovod that ho is trying to arrange for bail and that ho will then give himself up. Friends of Martel and Nash failed iu thoir efforts ef-forts todav to secure bail for their release, re-lease, fixed at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bonds for each. Besides Martel and Nash, thero aro at the county jail Waller J. Bartnett, former vice-president of tho California Safe Deposit & Trust company, which failod last November owing depositors over $S,000,000, and J. Dalzcl Brown, manager of the same- institution. |
