Show RULES GOVERNING VANDERBILT RACE Association Must Post Twenty Thousand Dollars to Gnar-, Gnar-, an tee Loss. Tribune Special Sporting Service. NEW YORK. Sept. 5. The terms of the Vanderbilt Gup race, as arranged by the Nassau County Supervisors, will demand de-mand much more from the Automobile Association of America in the way of policing the course and protecting pedestrians pe-destrians on the da3's of "practice" and actual competition than ever in any previous running of tho famous automobile automo-bile contest. They will rctpiirc tho officials of-ficials of the race. b3" which is meant the automobile association, to employ at least 1300 men to police the course, and these men must bo clad in white uniforms uni-forms from head to foot. On the day of tho race, which is scheduled for October 24. the special policemen must bc on duty from 5 a. m. till (5 p. m. Mounted guards will be required re-quired to station themselves at tho various cross roads and at all of the important turns in the course; groups of five mounted men must bc placed in order to warn pedestrians that they venture- onto the course at their own peril. In addition to the mounted men, at ' least 1000 more must be distributcl over I the course to warn persons of their dan-j dan-j ger and to maintain order. The men at tho cross roads must bo provided j with red and white flags, and it will i bo their duty to keep vehicles and pedestrians at least twenty-five yards from tho course whenever ono of tho i racing cars is approaching. ' Besides all this, the automobile association asso-ciation must deposit a bond of $25,000 to guarantee tho county from loss by damage from tho racing automobiles. The entrants for the race will bo allowed al-lowed to take practice spins over the course, but not. after 7 a. m. The days upon which practico will bc indulgod in must be advertised in tho county prints at- least twenty da3'3 prior to such practice. And if any of tho contestants con-testants is caught exceeding tho speed limit he will be arrested and disqualified disquali-fied from competing in the race. |
