Show General Conditions in Salt Lake City Are of Gratifying Character. DRY GOODS BUYERS COMING FROM EAST Money Fairly Plentiful, Although Al-though There Is Big Demand hy Builders. Although there has been apparently little gain in the general volume of trade throughout the citj-, the coming of cooler weather, the expected return of many people from the canyons, and the general gathering of tradesmen who arc preparing for the fall business, have all acted as a stimulus to business conditions, condi-tions, and there is a distinct confidonco at. the end of tho week iu advance of tho feeling during the entire summer. The. general condition, too, is considered consid-ered well voiced by the remark of a prominent; real estate dealer here, that although business was not as good as it might be, it was, oiu-the whole, better than tho outlook at the beginning of the year warranted, and although apparently ap-parently there had not been a tremendous tre-mendous amount of trading done in real estate, at least, the activity had been so far ahead oi what might have been expected from the depression of last fall that the situation permitted dealers to indulge in considerable confidence as to the outcome of the condition here, and that consequently tho general market mar-ket was considerable stronger than it had been for many months. Building Helps Some. As usual, the tremendous amount of building being done is pointed to as tho cause ot much of the activity in many lines of trade. It is the general feeling that trade conditions have been excellent excel-lent throughout tho summer, and that the demand for all those things required in the erection and furnishing ot ucw homes had acted as an effective stimulant stimu-lant for business in many lines not directly di-rectly connected with building. Lumber Lum-ber and other building materials have consequent!' been in great demand, and with many of the stores the sale of house furnishings has been phenomenal. This condition lias continued to hold good during tho past week also, and there has been nothing to cause- especial comment in this line of trade among dealers. A new factor has come into the business busi-ness world, however, with the return of many of the buyers of tho dry goods stores from the East. Most of them are full of enthusiasm over trade conditions and report many details of trade which indicate that the coming season will bo an excellent one. Details of tho fashions fash-ions for the fall and winter arc discussed dis-cussed by these tradesmen at great length, and if the signs fail not, the toilet of milady -will be fearfully and wonderfully ina'do and she will shine resplendent re-splendent in the raiment of a princess. It is a trillo early to sa- much about niaw-Milino attire, but dealers hint at wonderful revelations in the line of haberdashery and suitings. Tu fact, the clothing and dry goods dealers prophecy an excellent trade, and the confidence and enthusiasm shown by them will be spread to other dealers, it is thought, so that this line of business may be considered a fairly good index of "what may be expected here in a few weeks as soon as the season fairly opens. Hardware Men Waiting. Hardware dealers are awaiting the harvesting of the beet crop, and their trad' in the meantime indicates that the event is not far off. Tho fanners are apparently fitting up their wagons and harness, and tho sale of bolts, strap-liingcs, strap-liingcs, whips, straps, and in fact everything every-thing that pertains to farm life and especially that lino devoted to the beet industrv'has been sold in largo quantities. quanti-ties. This line of trade also offers a groat advance over the trado of previous previ-ous weeks, when (hero appeared to bo a general disposition to postpone buying buy-ing things of this sort until it. became absolutely necessary, so that tho rush for farm' goods at this time is tho more marked. Another feature of the trado also has been the talk of tho farmers and small in the outlying settlements. They speak glibly of good crops, it is said, and tell ot oxpcclod high prices. There appears to bo an era of confidonco and enthusiasm amoiig the people who gain their livelihood irom the soil and this is regarded as an excellent indication of a high grade of prosperity this fall. Among the retail hardware dealers the call lor builders' hardware continues good. it. is said, but as this is iu keep, ing with the large amount of building, build-ing, it occasions httlo comment. In Financial World. Jn the financial world there appears to bo considerable difference of opinion regarding general conditions, especially among the money lenders, and it has been said lhat this indicates an attempt on the part of dealers to require higli rates on account f alleged seare.il3- of money to loan. Many veal estate men claim that thej' arc unable to secure a loan of any amount of cash ou good mortgage security sufficient to carry out tho investments which they wish, whereas others say that thero arc ample amounts obtainable at rates of interest varviug from G to 7 per cent. There has been complaint from time to time among brokers that money was tight and that they were waiting for tho harvesting of the .beet crop and tho placing fin circulation of large amounts ot eastern capital to relieve the situation, and yet others deny that there is any shortage and expect a lowering low-ering of rates and a flooding of the money market, coincident with the distribution dis-tribution of tho large sums for the payment pay-ment of tho beet crop. Heal Estato Conditions. Iieal estato conditions continue about the same as for tho pas; few months. Most dealers report a good deal of activity ac-tivity in-small deals, and the number of inquiries made by investors is large. Tho same difficulty reported last week continues, however; namely, tho disposition disposi-tion of sellers to advance prices on obtaining ob-taining aii offer close to the amount asked. It is as if tho owners of property prop-erty thought that properly was advancing advanc-ing in value and they wished to obtain the top-notch price from the purchaser before selling. This is said to hurt business greatly and is deprecated by the dealers generally. Almost no reports re-ports of large deals .-.re received. Commission Com-mission men, main- of them are considering con-sidering new Warehouses, and iu several cases, new buildings aro being erected. Throughout the business district thero is said to .be a good deal of can for business locations, aud tho new stores opened aro taken up at once. Tho construction con-struction of- now office buildings all over the city aud the new ltrgc stores are progressing rapidly, and there appears ap-pears to bo little prospect that they will not bo filled as soon as they aro ready for ocenpany. Tlic stock market has not been espe-ciallv espe-ciallv active, and Ihoro has been little change in tho prices quoted last week. Sugar stocks receive tho most attention atten-tion aud the number of sales in these exceeds ex-ceeds any other. Following arc tho lastest quotation?. Stocks and Bonds.
