Show CORRUPT MOVE IN IDAHO. The situation in Idaho is a curious one. Republicans aro in control of tho State. There is a bolt in the Democratic part-, tho bolters putting up a State ticket against the regular ticket of their party. The Secretary of- Stato. assumes as-sumes that tho bolting Democrats aro tho regular party, and files their ticket, refusing to filo the ticket of the regular party organization. Undoubtedly this is a partisan act, absolute!" unfair aud clearly illegal. And yet through the hopo of obtaining thereby a moro par-' tisan advantage, a partisan official tramples tram-ples the facts under foot and undertakes to disintegrate tho opposing party by a wrongful use of his official position. Of course thoro will bo an appeal to the courts of tho State, tho. result of which thcro-ought not to be the least doubt. The regular part- is entitled to recognition under tho law by all officials having anything to do with the matter. Tho bolting Democrats, . however, havo thrown a sop to tho Supremo Court of tho State by refusing to uominato any candidate in opposition to ono of tho incumbents who is also tho nominee again of tho Republican party. It will clearly be to tho personal and partisan interest of this judgo to decide in favor, of the bolting ticket of tho Democrats. Aud yet tho bribe is so plain, tho consideration con-sideration so manifest, that it seems incredible in-credible that any judgo would stoop so low as to range himself with such a desperate political play. Wc, of course, refuse to entertain tho idea tjiat the judge could bo so influenced. And in view of tho regularity of tho party's procedure, in view oi'nhc fact that tho convcutiou was held ou tho regular party call, that the officers making tho call proceeded regularly and aro still acting with the regular party, -tho outrage out-rage of rejecting tho regular nominees of the parly in favor of Iho boltiug faction fac-tion is so manifest that wo havo not the least idea of the Supreme Court of Tdaho for ono moment entertaining auy propositiou to throw out tho regular ticket and sustain tho bolting factibu, even though that faction has thrown out the consideration indicated, in tho hope of corruptly influencing the court. |
