Show FLAMES CREEP DOWN AND THREATEN DEAD WOOD DEADWOOD. S. D Sopt. 5. Fifty men spent yesterday and last night fighting a forest fire which threatened to sweep down the gulch into tho town. The fire reached a point last night within half a mile of the city and threatened much damage unless it Is soon checked. A dozen forest fires havo been started within with-in tho past week, most of them by carelessness. care-lessness. The underbrush Is so dry that tho flames spread with remarkable rapidity rapid-ity and the closest watch Is being kept on tho burning forests. |
