Show f ,. -. ... - X - ' J j ? SAVE WETLANDS By CONSERVATION ! OFFICER TOM ANGEI.OS ': This week maiks the 39th annual observance of Na- ' tional Wildlife Week. The theme for 1976 is "Save Our Wetlands." (,,, WETLANDS are not only u important to waterfowl but r. oiher wildlife depend on them il! for their survival also. Although Farmington Bay is Othe main wetland area in JDavis County, there are manv I marshes and small ponds that benefit waterfowl and irildlife. ' Most of us recognize the moortance of water fowl management areas only during dur-ing the fall hunting season. However, these areas serve as resting places and production areas as well. OUR COUNTRY as a whole has lost more than half of its original wetlands. Construction Construc-tion of buildings and roadways road-ways has contributed largely to this. Federal, state and private efforts have begun to cut the rate of wetland loss. If each of us could show a little concern towards this worthwhile cause, the wetlands we have left could be improved and saved, for the benefit of our water fowl and wildlife. We as humans need a healthy wildlife population. Theme for National Wildlife Week this year is "Save our Wetlands." |
