Show Please Standby One of life's mysteries is why certain expressions and word usages live on past their time. IN THIS connection, why do television announcers when their stations encounter cable or technical trouble--te!l viewers to standby? Practically Prac-tically all viewers are seated. Why should they standby? Why not sitby? Why not say simple technical tech-nical troubles are being experienced and the picture will be restored as soon as possible? AND WHILE on the television subject, must we always al-ways view a parade of names of every flunkie who had anything at all to do with making the lousy program we just watched? Set decorator, assistant lighting coordinator, costume makeup assistant, latrine mopper, etc.? IF newspapers went that route, every type setter, pressman, the delivery boy and perhaps the circulation manager would be listed after each feature. |
