Show Jacliie Beene Loads Clearfield Gals Into 1978 Track Season By DAVE WIGHAM CLEARFIELD -- With the tradition that the girls' track . team at Clearfield has built up over the past few years one can only expect the Falcons to field anotiier strong competitive competi-tive team this season. COACH Margo Jones has turned the Clearfield school into potential state champions each year and this year the girls are strong again. Two years ago Coach Jones and her gals won the state crown and last year they dropped to sixth and are anxious anx-ious to pull back up into the winners' circle. LEADING the charge for the third year will be Jackie Beene. Jackie is the defending defend-ing state champion in the 100 yard dash and also places sixth in the 440. She would have placed high in the 220 but a scheduling problem at the state meet prohibited her from running the race. Had she run in that race, the Falcons would have moved up in the standings, had she won the race they would have been third in the slate. JACKIE is the state record holder in the 100 with a 11.31 timing. Also in the sprints for the Falcons will be Cori: Richards, Tina Allred and Cindy Clark. The Falcons could dominate the sprints with runners like this. CORI Bishop leads a group of gals in the distance races for Clearfield. Kendahlle Brandenburg, Becky Seabreeze, Tami Roberts, Valerie Peikorn and Teri Williamson are all slated for action in either the 880, mile or two mile. Joyce Anderson leads the parade of field entrants for the Falcons. Joyce placed lourth in the state in the shot put competition and should better that performance this year. KELLIE Sherrod, Lavern Shemwood, Karlean Peart and Michelle Craythorne are slated for participation in either the shot, discus or javelin. The Falcons were hit hard by the graduation of Jodi DeRouchey who won the state javelin crown and a fourth place in the discus. TAMI Roberts and Denise Russel are the top entries in the hurdle races while Lori Christiansen is the top high and long jumper. With certain points at both region and state meets from Jackie Beene and Joyce Anderson, An-derson, the Falcons can be considered favorites again in track and field. Viewmont will be their chief competitors in the region. |
