I TO AUTOGRAPH Brigham Young's Ail-American Ail-American quarterback, Gif-lurd Gif-lurd Nielsen, will be at Tuwne & Country Racquet Club in Woods Cross on Saturday, April 15. One of the top pro prospects in the nation, Gif-i Gif-i lord will be at Towne & j Country from noon until 4 p.m. to sign autographs and talk with the residents of Davis County. NIELSEN WAS a candidate at BYU for the Heisman j trophy, awarded annually to j the outstanding football player in the nation. However he was sidelined for the season when .he suffered torn ligaments in his knee in the lourth game of the season. Gifford Nielsen will be in Woods Cross this Saturday to sign autographs at Towne & Country. The knee was operated on, and the star quarterback was on crutches for the remainder of the year. Even though his senior year was cut short, he set several records. His total of 55 touchdown touch-down passes was the best in the school's history and tied a national record set by Danny White of Arizona State University. NIELSEN ALSO completed the most passes, a total of 415, breaking the old record of 358 set by Gary Scheide. His total of 5,833 yards passing also broke the records of Virgil Carter and Gary Scheide. He was named player of the week several times this year. Last year he was named on the Ail-American first team of the Football Writers of America, the second team of the United Press International Interna-tional and Associated Press, led the NCAA in touchdown passes, was Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, won the Dale Re Memorial Trophy, and had the 1976 single game high of 468 yards passing against Utah State. GIFFORD WILL be at Towne & Country as part of their "Get In Shape For '78" week. He will have some free postcards with his autograph on them to give away. He has said that his fans will hear trom him again, and this is your chance to hear about his tulure. |
