Show i v ' .ra-v , J A h V. PHILIP SCHMUTZ Phillip Schmutz, 13, son of Dr. and Mrs. W. Gardner Schmutz, Bountiful, received his Eagle Scout Award in a recent Bountiful East Stake Court of Honor. PHILLIP IS an eighth grader at Millcreek Junior High School where he has been very active in school activities. ac-tivities. He was a member of the ninth grade basketball team this year and is now playing on the baseball team. Phillip has enjoyed his involvement in-volvement in the scouting program. He has earned 33 merit badges and the one he enjoyed the most was canoeing. canoe-ing. He feels that he learned the most from the lifesaving merit badge. IN TROOP 263, he has served as den chief, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, and senior patrol leader. In his deacon quorum, he has been secretary and is now deacon quorum president in the Bountiful 30th Ward. For his Eagle project, Phillip designed and built some tray tables to be used by patients in nursing homes so they could lay magazines and books on them and read without having to hold the books. These were presented to the Bountiful Nursing Home and the Brookside Manor Nursing Home recently. PHILLIP HAS been very active in athletic programs in the community. Favorite sports include basketball, baseball, football, skiing, golf, hunting and fishing. He has played Little League baseball for five years and has been on several all-star teams. He also enjoys Little League football and was voted "Most Valuable Player" by his teammates at the end of the 1977 season. Leaders of Troop 263 who have assisted him are Glen Hogge, Terry Cannon, Robert Barlow, Bill Smith and Cozetta Hirschi. |
