Show FClGOil SOOCGP IS CnTIio Opooino By DAVE WIGHAM CLEARFIELD - Several years ago the opposing schools didn't look upon the game with Clearfield soccer team as a challenge, it was merely an act of showing un lor the game. FOR YEARS the Falcons have been in the also ran category ca-tegory but they are about to break away from that title in the near future. It might not' be this year but the time isn't tar away when the Clearfield team will be a top contender. Under the direction of Joel Brown the Clearfield team has improved each and every year. ONLY the Bountiful and Viewmont teams have been able to beat the Falcons with any consistency, and that's because of the youth program in Bountiful. Now the Clear-lield Clear-lield team is getting some of the players from youth programs and the high school team has benefitted from it. Nick Tovar, Solomon Pupunu and Jeff Staples are the strong performers on the soccer field for Clearfield this season. Under the leadership of these three, the Clearfield bunch has vastly improved. Tovar is the goalie, Pupunu is a defender and Staples is a forward. ON DEFENSE the Falcons feature Tovar in goal, David Bateman at right fullback, Louis Wunderlich at center fullback and Pupunu at left fullback. Phil Douglas is starting at right halfback, Alan Ragan at center halfback and Davis Crabtree at left halfback. ANOUDETH Voravong is the right winger on the forward for-ward line, Jell Staples is the left winger while Abel Nor-vaez Nor-vaez and Russell James are in the middle. Reserves for the Clearfield team are Mark Mitchell, Ned King, Carlton Rosengrant, Wyatt Cole, Blair Jensen, Pat Hansen and Alvin Hansen. CLEARFIELD has come a long way in soccer over the past few years and given a couple of more years of getting get-ting players from youth programs and the Falcons should be right up there with Viewmont and Bountiful. |
