Show Garvv To Fill Chouse Soaft BOUNTIFUL - Robert Garff, 551 East 3100 South, Bountiful, has been appointed by Governor Scott Matheson to fill the legislative position left open in House of Representatives District 57 when Douglas Sonntag was appointed to the Utah Tax Commission. RALPH OLMO, treasurer of the Davis County Republican Party said Governor Matheson selected Representative Garff from two names chosen by the central committee in the voting vot-ing district. Doris Wilson, 2224 Ridgewood Way, vice chairman of the state Republican Party, was also nominated for the position. Rep. Garff is vice president of Ken Garff Oldsmobile in Salt Lake City and has been a past chairman of the Utah Cancer Crusade. In Republican party affairs, he has served as a legislative district chairman and was on the state finance committee. BORN IN Salt Lake City in 1942, Rep. Garff graduated from the University of Utah with an MBA degree. He has no interest in full time politics, poli-tics, but feels he can bring the concerns of the small businessman and a practical economic sense to the legislature. Rep. Garff said he is concerned con-cerned about the government stifling the free enterprise system through government regulations and hopes to try to correct those problems t ' ' l x ROBERT GARFF ACCORDING TO Mr. Olmo, there is no guarantee that Mr. Garff will receive any of the committee appointments held by Rep. Sonntag but the party leadership is hopeful that he can replace Sonntag on the rules committee. Rep. Garff has been a resident of Bountiful for 10 years and has served three years as a LDS Bishop. HE HAS been appointed only for the remainder of the term and must seek re-election in November. According to Mr. Olmo, Mrs. Wilson may run against Rep. Garff in the upcoming primary, but has not yet officially announced an-nounced her candidacy, rk |
