Show LAMAR THE WOLF OF WALL STREET I Senator Newlands Makes Open Reference in Senate Lane Assails Committee Washington, D. C, Jan. 29. David Lamar got into the senate debate j again today and was openly referred to by Senator Newlands as "the wolf of Wall street." Senator Lane whs criticising Mr. Newlands' committee for refusing to hear testimony by William H. Green of Crcighton, Neb., on his resolution to inquire whether the United States Steel corporation had received illegal ille-gal rebates from railroads. The committee, when it developed that Green's "board of strategy" wa:j Lamar, and that Green refused to testify tes-tify unless he could name a certain amended Mr. Lane's resolution for transmission to Attorney General Mc-Reynolds Mc-Reynolds and the interstate commerce commission merely for information. Senator Lane attacked the committee's commit-tee's report as partial and incomplete incom-plete and declared the system of executive ex-ecutive sessions furnished "legislative rat holes down which the rights of the people disappear." Mr, Newlands quoted Green as having said Lamar presented the resolution to Senator -Lancr - '-S:'.- - ; J",.. "Let the record show this man's name is .not Lamar, but that he is masquerading . under an assumed name," interrupted Senator Bacon. The subject went over until tomorrow. |
