Show MRS. DIANA E. SMOOT, PROVO PIONEER, DIES Provo, Utah, Jan. 2S. Mrs. Diana Eldredge Smoot died at 2 o'clock this morning at her home in the Fifth ward from general debility as the result re-sult of an accident on November 25, when Mrs Smoot sustained a fall, i dislocated her hip and fractured her thigh, since which time she had been : I confined to her bed. Mrs, Smoot was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Eldredge and was born in Indianapolis, Ind., March 2S, 1S37. Her parents soon after moved to Nauvoo, 111., and in September, 1S47, came to Utah in the first company com-pany following the original pioneers of July. 1S47. On May C, 1S55, she was married 6 the late A. O. Smoot, who became the second mayor of Salt Lake, and who died here in 1S95J In 186S she came to Provo with her husband and her home had since been in this city, where she had enjoyed the esteem and love of all her acquaintances by rca- ; son of her kindly sympathetic and genial character. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Nancy Beebe of Provo; Pro-vo; Mrs. Olive Bean of Juab countv; Mrs. Elizabeth Hardy, Mrs. Ella Rob-ison, Rob-ison, Mrs. Vilate Pierpont, O. P., A II. and Wilford Smoot, all of this city. She is also survived by forty-three j grandchildren and a large number of great-grandchildren. She also had a number of brothers and sisters. Among Am-ong them are Alma Eldredge of Salt Lake. Edmund Eldredge of Coalville, Ira Eldredge of Uintah county, Horace Hor-ace and William Eldredge of Salt Lake, and Mrs. Esther Garns of Coalville. |
