A band of militant mili-tant suffragettes today besieged the Archbishop of Canterbury, the English Eng-lish primate, in Lambeth palace, and eventually forced him to capitulate and receive one of their number in order to discuss the question of forcible forci-ble feeding. The Avomen were headed by Mrs. Dacre-Fox. It took them upwards of an hour to obtain admission to the old palace on the banks of the Thames a little above Westminster. They declined to listen to any attempt on tho part of those within to temporize. tempor-ize. Finally the archbishop, seeing the futility of trying to escape from his obdurate blockaders, allowed Mrs. Dacre-Fox to enter. The head of the Church of England listened sympathetically to the suffragette's suf-fragette's appeals, but he refused definitely def-initely to commit himself. |
