Show RUN STARTS ON SAVINGS BANK One of Oldest and Strongest Institutions in New York Paying Off Depositors. CLAMOR A SURPRISE President Unable to Explain How Excitement Over Funds Was Started. New York, Jan. 29. A run started today on the Bank for Savings, the oldest and one of the strongest savings sav-ings banks in the state. A long line of depositors, mostly of the poorer class, was at the doors of the institution institu-tion when it opened, clamoring for their money. President Walter Trimble Trim-ble said ho was at a loss to explain how the run started. All depositors who- applied were being paid off, he said, and the bank was ready to meet all demands. The bank's surplus and profits, according ac-cording to its last statement, amounted amount-ed to $9,S58,6S0 and Its deposits to 98,202,340. It was founded in 1S16. no i |
