Show I Murray blanks Braves, 13-0 By GARY BLODGETT Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL - Bountiful High's baseball team fell 10 runs behind in the first three innings and went down to defeat to Murray High, 13-0, in an abbreviated Region Six game played last Thursday afternoon. With the "10-run lead" high school rule in effect, the game was I concluded after five innings. It was the second loss in a row for the young Braves, who lost a 3-2 thriller to Granite earlier in the week. "We're a very young, inexperienced team and have not reached our potential yet," said Braves' Coach Phil Olsen. "We didn't give up, we just didn't have what it takes against a very good Murray team." Murray, a pre-season favorite to win the Region Six title, lost its opener to Woods Cross in extra innings. The Wildcats took a 10-4 lead and then held on to nip Murray, 12-11, in nine innings. The two teams were deadlocked at 1 1 at the end of the regulation seven innings. inn-ings. "We're still not out of the race by any means. We just have to regroup and start winning some games. We'll get better as the season progresses. We certainly haven't reached our potential yet.," said Olsen. Murray jumped all over Bountiful in the first inning, scoring 10 runs on nine hits. Murray really shellacked Bountiful in the first inning when big Jeremy Winget, cleanup hitter, proved his prowess with a long triple and Dave Madsen added two doubles, along with two-base hits by Carson Winget, Dave Robinson and Derek Anderson. Fortunately, the 10-run lead high school rule stopped the game after five innings of Region Six play. |
