Show Stevenson receives award i Richard S. Stevenson of Layton was selected for the Utah High j School Activ ities Association ' s ' 1990 Circle of Fame. The association presented the award to Stevenson at the state basketball tournaments held at the Huntsman Center on the University of Utah campus. The UHSAA Circle of Fame was initiated to honor outstanding contributors con-tributors to Utah high school ac-tivites ac-tivites and the youth those activities serve. Stevenson ' s career affiliation with student activities began and concluded at Davis High School, where he served as principal for 27 years. His service to the Utah High School Activities Association included in-cluded eight years on the Board of Directors and four more as vice president and president of that organization. In 1980 he was appointed as the only principal to the National Federation Fed-eration of State High School Association's executive committee. He was prominent in establishing girls athletic competition in Utah, developed the 1 A through 4A classification concept and pioneered innovative band and orchestra or-chestra competitions throughout the state. "When you spend all your life with kids and doing things for kids and have somebody say thanks, it is really great,' said Stevenson. Stevenson's only disappointment was that Davis High School wasn't playing in the state tournament when he was presented the award. |
