Show Local students helped save bears A thank-you note from a Yellowstone Park bear? More than 2,000 Utah elementary-school students are entitled to such a card after completing a unique "Help Us Save the Yellowstone Bears" reading and science program sponsored by Af-ton, Af-ton, Wyoming-based Maverik Country stores. Nearly 30,000 students repre senting more than 500 classrooms and 250 elementary schools in eight Western states participated in the year-long "Help Us Save the Yellowstone Park Bears" program, and some 6,000 young students completed the reading and science project. Utah led the program in participation par-ticipation with 13,665 students in Logan, Smithfield, Brig ham City, Clearfield, Ogden, Orem, Provo, Richfield, Salt Lake City, Sandy' Midvale, Murray, Centerville, Vernal, Ver-nal, Clinton, Magna, Layton, Sunset, Roy, Roosevelt, Garland, West Valley City, West Jordan,' Kearns, Bountiful, Farmington, Hyrum, Millville, Midway, Tremonton, Heber, Riverton and Wellsville taking part. Some 2,035 Utah students completed com-pleted the fun-filled program, giving giv-ing the Beehive State the highest number of "Help Us Save the Yellowstone Bears" graduates. That's good news for Yellowstone National Park's bears. William Call, president of Maverik Country Stores, vowed to donate $1 to the Yellowstone National Park Management Program Pro-gram for every student completing the informative reading program. |
