"I was impressed with the atmosphere, at-mosphere, the feeling of the hospital," she said. She talked with physicians about pursing a nursing career, and they recommended the program at Weber State, she said. "I heard that graduates from Weber State are the best clinically prepared nurses, and I've found it to be true," she said. Hansen will officially receive her scholarship during the National Student Nurses Association convention conven-tion meeting this April in Nashville, Term. She and 99 other students, will then leave for Europe at the end of summer quarter. 4 'The nursing profession is more than just a job," Hansen said. "As a nurse you deal with people who are not at their best. I want to help them feel their best. ' A Weber State College nursing student was recently chosen from 400 national applicants to spend two weeks in Europe studying cancer. Ruthann Hansen, the daughter of Darwin and Genae Hansen, 1344 N. 900 E., Bountiful, is a second-year nursing student at Weber State and will leave Aug. 9 for two weeks of study in Amsterdam and Germany. Her European study is part of the sixth International Conference on Cancer Nursing, and the 15th International Inter-national Union Against Cancer Conference. Trip expenses will be paid by the Helen Fuld Health Trust Fellowship, awarded by the National Student Nurses Association Associa-tion in New York. Hansen was selected to receive the fellowship on the basis of academics, commitment commit-ment to nursing as a profession and interest in cancer education. "I have a long family history of cancer," Hansen said. "All my grandparents had it, and some of my aunts. My mom has been in and out of the hospital with cancer." The conference will feature world experts on cancer, discussing the care of those who have the disease, she said. "I have a true desire to learn about cancer.
