Show Essays on humane animal research sought for contest Writing Competition, 661 S. 200 E., Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Judging will focus on originality, creativity, command of the English language and understanding of the basic reasons animal use is necessary in biomedical research. Groups endorsing CARE-Utah's essay project include health-care agencies; medical, veterinary hospital and pharmaceutical associations; Salt Lake County and city health departments; Brigham Young University, the University of Utah and the Laboratory Animal Research Center of Utah State University. ' 'The Animal-Human Team: Partners in Medical Progress for the Benefit of Both" is the topic for the fourth annual essay contest sponsored spon-sored by the Committee for Animals in Research and Education in Utah (CARE-Utah), a community communi-ty group which supports medical research re-search using animals. Three finalists will be chosen from Utah high school students who write the best essays on the role humane animal research has played in medical advances. Students in public, private or parochial schools are eligible to enter. The first place winner will receive a $500 cash award; second and third place winners will each receive $100. Entries should be no longer than 750 words and must be postmarked by April 9. A cover sheet, listing the student's name, address, telephone number and school must be included. includ-ed.
