Show Antler scams in Vernal "Recently there has been an unusually high number of illegal activities ac-tivities related to the commercialization of big game animals. ' That comment comes from Clair Davis, regional law enforcement officer for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. "We normally have a few individuals that illegally take and sell trophy animals, but this year, there has been an increase in antler thefts, scams or con games and the illegal taking of buck deer,' ' he continued. "We know of one or two individuals who have been contacting local people and asking them to donate deer and elk antlers for use in studies. These individuals claim they are graduate students at Utah State University working on a thesis. They usually claim they are using us-ing antlers to determine the effects of the three-point-or-better regulation," he said. Officials are also finding buck of all sizes shot and left in the field with only the head or antlers missing. Sun Advocate |
