Show Davis CAP Ponders Purchase Of j Separate Computer ' By MARK 1). MK KKl.SKN FARM INC. TON - The "computer age" is taking hold in Davis County, and it appears as though the trend is far from over. ADMINISTRATORS in the Davis Community Action Program are exploring the possibility pos-sibility of purchasing a separate sepa-rate computer for their department, depar-tment, but must determine first whether or not the purchase will be cost efficient. "We're hoping to develop a ' good filing system so that if needs come up we'll know who to call on," CAP director Ver- 1 ; non Griffith said. i ALTHOl'GH CAP officials x are studying a number of alter-;. alter-;. natives including the flexible f, "Apple" computer system v. Mr. Griffith said he is interested in-terested in "ioining forces" with other county departments who may want to tie into the s stem. One such department is the Davis Title XX program w hose director, Rich Nelson, told county commissioners recently recent-ly that he would like to tie into the system for record-keeping purposes. T11K IT AH Division of Social So-cial Services and the Federal Title XX organization have endorsed en-dorsed the tie-in. The Davis County Commission authorized autho-rized the expenditure of $1500 in Tittle XX funds last week. The money w ill be used for Mr. Nelson's proposed tie-in to the CAP system. He said the lie-in is contingent contin-gent upon action taken by CAP leaders. MR. (.IRIFKF.TH, who says the computer idea is still in the exploration stage, explained that budget cuts are forcing the department to "cover all the bases with less money." One of the advantages of the computer is that the CAP agency agen-cy w ould be able to keep a running run-ning list of the names of those individuals needing assistance. assist-ance. CAP recently processed hundreds of applications for cheese rations throughout the county. With a computer, the names of individuals interested in-terested in the rations would remain within the organization. organiza-tion. AT THIS point, says Mr. Griffith, CAP is attempting to determine what processes are most "cost effective." "If we look at the total (computer) picture and it's cheap, then that's the way to go." "The demands are increasing increas-ing and the funds are decreasing," decreas-ing," he said. The question is, "how do you cover the bases?" |
