Show Council Debates Livestock Issue Dogs and cats for pets yes! But chickens and rabbits for home production of food is an issue being debated by members mem-bers of the Val Verda-Orchard Advisory Council. AS THE council members put finishing touches on their recommendations of the county coun-ty planning commission regarding re-garding the proposed county-wide county-wide zonine ordinance, a re- Orchard Advisory Council nearest their home. The proposal simply states that homeowners homeow-ners on lots one-half acre or larger be permitted to raise a small number of rabbits and chickens to help meet the families fami-lies food needs. Council members were divided di-vided in their opinions regarding regard-ing this matter. Those in favor of the proposal argued that in difficult times, it may be necessary neces-sary for area residents to raise a greater portion of their food. Also since the ordinance is being revised, now is the time to make provisions for such needs. OPPONENTS of the measure mea-sure expressed concern that chickens make too much noise and that both chickens and rabbits can produce offensive odors unless properly cared for. Those favoring the proposal prop-osal countered by pointing out that in some instances barking dogs and uncleaned kennels can also be highly offensive.
