MICKELSEN WEST BOUNTIFUL Two major fires one in Woods Cross, the other in the unincorporated county area resulted in substantial property proper-ty value losses during the first quarter of 1982, according to a report released by the South U Davis Fire District. DURING THE period from late January through March 29, Fire Chief Brent Argyle said a Woods Cross refinery fire and a suspicious structural fire in the unincorporated county area cost landowners nearly $33,000 in damages. The structural fire resulted in several thousand dollars worth of damages and is still under investigation. The Woods Cross refinery fire at Caribou Oil cost property owners over $17,000. The South Davis Fire District provides pro-vides back-up fire protection for a number of local refineries. refiner-ies. Many of the facilities, like Chevron and Phillips, have their own fire-fighting team, capable of handling most refinery refin-ery blazes. CHIEF ARGYLE told SDFD board members recently recent-ly that Phillips is spending $7,000,000 on a new sprinkling system for the plant, in hopes that the addition will increase fire safety precautions. Rubbish and grass, structural, structu-ral, and miscellanccous fires made up the largest percentage of fires reported during the quarter. There were five reported re-ported fires dealing with moto-rized moto-rized vehicles during the period. THE REPORT, released to the SDFD board last week, shows Centerville. North Salt Lake and Farmington city answered 42 calls for ambulance service in their area. Fire losses in the areas covered co-vered by the South Davis Fire District totalled S33.425 during the period. |
