Show last ei Oosfiefboll League Names Arbiter For Year New Officials To Call Games For Season Coaches, principals and prospective pros-pective basketball officials of the Uintah Basin last Wednesday, Nov. 16, took a definite progressive step forward when they appointed an arbiter to direct the waxed court problems this year. The meeting was held at Union High School. According to Loman F. Hutch-ings, Hutch-ings, Union principal, and president presi-dent of the Uintah Basin Administration Admin-istration Assn., ' Norwood Hardy, former basketball official, who is now principal of the Whiterocks school, has accepted the assignment assign-ment of arbiter for the Uintah Basin basketball league. He formerly form-erly was connected with the schools in Vernal, moving to Whiterocks last fall. For several years he officiated basketball in the Basin. Duties Defined Although a complete set of rules that will govern the arbiter have not been compiled as yet, certain duties of Mr. Hardy will be to assign all officials to all games, practice or league "B" or "A" games to be played during the season in the Basin. He will also handle disputes, if any arise', between be-tween schools. He is a man highly respected by principals, coaches and officials, and was a popular choice for the assignment. (Continued rrom Page 1) will train to become certified for the season. Sixteen men were on hand and signified their desire to take the' training and tests to function func-tion this season. Only one man, Norman Long, officiated last season, sea-son, the other group of officials resigned following the Region Five tournament in Roosevelt last March. Two Experienced Tal' and Darrell Wardle', brothers, broth-ers, are the only others of the group who have had experience officiating. Tal is from Neola and Darrell from Vernal. They worked as a brother team for several years, but have not been active the past couple of seasons. Other men on the job last Wednesday Wed-nesday and again at Altamont Monday for a clinic are Leon Ross, Corwin and Norman Labrum, Lyle Hintze' and Don Sorenson, Roosevelt; Roose-velt; Dean Huber, Lapoint; Glen-don Glen-don Hanberg, Harry Fieldstead and Bruce Hartman, Al.tamont; Larry Abegglin, Kenneth Luff and Richard Rich-ard Johnson, Vernal', and Farrell Humphreys, Duchesne. A clinic was held at the new Altamont High gym last Monday night for all officials, coaches, scoreres and timers, with another one scheduled for next Monday at the new Uintah High gym. Time of this clinic is 8 p.m. "It is the honest desire of all people connected with our Basin high schools, and those who are to work closely with our basketball' basket-ball' program this coming season, to make all games the best possible pos-sible by having certified officials working all contests," Mr. Hutch-ings Hutch-ings said Tuesday. A meeting will be held of the group next Tuesday Tues-day at Union High School to set up rules for the arbiter. Region Playoff Set As has been the procedure in the past the two winners in the Uintah Basin and in the Grand-Emery-San Juan divisions, will go direct to the Class B tournament. Then the second and third place teams from each district will meet prior to the state tourney in a two-day playoff for the third entry in the state classic. This playoff for 1956 will be held somewhere in the other district, possibly the home of the team winning second place. |
