Show School Board Is Briefed On State Aid Program At the last School Board Meeting Meet-ing which was held on August 9 at the Board Office in Duchesne Supt. Rowan Stutz gave a report of the approved State Aid Program Pro-gram for 1956-1957. This program estimates 96.6 distribution Units for the 1956-1957 school year compared with 95.8 for the 1955-1956. 1955-1956. The increase as a result of the approval of the Duchesne High School, as a special school for the coming year. This increase offsets the decrease in enrollment and the decreasein the district supervisory super-visory staff resulting from not replacing Farrell Humphreys, District Dis-trict Guidance Director. Mr. Stutz reported on the 1956 summer Economics program, just completed under the direction of Mrs. Virginia Nielsen. Forty-three girls from Roosevelt Jr High school received 7 weeks of supervision super-vision and instruction in Home Economics. A total of 78 projects were completed by this group of Program The Board reviewed and discussed' dis-cussed' the proposed new State Senior High School program of studys and graduation' requirements. require-ments. These have been developed during the last winter by a State Committee and have been sent to the State Course of Study Committee Com-mittee for approvial. School districts are urged to have the program in operation in 1957, and the minimum gradua- tion requirments imposed by 1959. The local Board of Education instructed Supt. Stutz to proceed with the revision of the Duchesne County High School program of studies and high school graduation gradua-tion requirements as rapidly as possible to bring them in harmony har-mony with the State regulation. These new regulations apply to grades 10 thru 12- A future study will be made for grades 7 to 9. Supt. Stutz also reported that the library service bill passed the national congress approving funds to states on a matching basis to assist with the improvement of rural library services. ' In order for rural areas in Utah to recieve benefit under this act, and making an appropriation of approximately $50,000 If this is done, Utah will be eligable for about $60,000 in federal fund's for improvement of rural library ser vices. The local board directed the superintendent to contact those state orginizations preparing school legislation for 1957 State legislature, to encourage the preparation pre-paration of legislation which would enable Utah to participate in the federal bilL Utah is the only state that is not set up to participate in thet act. The Board approved the following follow-ing teachers for the 1956-57 school year; Donna Massey and Mary Stolle, Duchesne Elementary Elemen-tary school and Jerry Christensen and Joseph Moody, Duchesne High Workers The following lunch workers were approved by the board;, Mrs. Linda Carter and Mrs. Eva Fietkau Roosevelt Elementary, Bernetta Duncan and Mrs. Molly Spenser, Neola Elementary. The Board recieved specification's specifica-tion's for bidding for tires, gasoline, gaso-line, oil, coal and bus insurance. They authorized the Clerk to call for bids to be opened on Sept. 6th, at 2 p.m.-. The Board approved the renewal re-newal of its contract agreement with the State Pepttrtment , of Health, for the service of the Public Health Nurse. Under the agreement, the State pays 40 of the cost; the county 30 and the school district 30. The Districts portion amounts to $1,247.04 |
