Show Jack Burgess Is Auxiliary Essay Winner His essay on the subject "Americanism, A Study in Freedom," Free-dom," won first place honors in the Roosevelt American Legion Auxiliary annual contest that was completed last Friday, and announced Tuesday by Mrs. Pearl M o y s h, Americanism chairman for the unit. A junior in high school, Jack is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. (Bert) Burgess, of Roosevelt. Second place was won by Pauline Larson, Lar-son, of Arcadia. Jack's essay has now been entered en-tered in the finals of Region Five and has been sent to Mrs. Fred Voll at Helper, regional Americanism chairman. The winner win-ner from this area will go to the department finals. Judges for the recent contest were Mrs. Don Johnson. Mrs. Howard Harrison and Mrs. Homer Hom-er P. Edwards. The Standard will print the two winning essays in later issues is-sues of the paper. |
