Show Beautification Of City Grounds Sets Official Hod To get an over-all picture of a beautification plan for the city park and area surrounding the Roosevelt civic building, ideas were pointed out Wednesday Wednes-day morning by A. E. Smith, landscape artist from the Utah State Agricultural college and county agent at Tooele. Meeting with Bennie Schmiett, chairman of the recreation committee com-mittee of the city council, and Louis Jensen, local county agent, Mr. Smith assisted in selecting! a site for a rose garden and suggested sug-gested several ideas for planting plant-ing shrubs, lawn and trees to beautify the whole plot. They will be placed in such a way that they won't have to be moved for future buildings and a swimming pool, which are in the minds of the councilmen and local citizens when water facilities fa-cilities are improved. Also in attendance to offer suggestions were representatives from various organizations. Selected Se-lected to act as chairman of the rose garden committee was Mrs. Clair Ashton, who will meet with the club representatives Friday afternoon to begin plans for raising fund to finance the project. Mr. Schmiett said that leveling level-ing of the ground is now underway under-way for the beautification center, cen-ter, with intention to sod the whole thing as soon as possible. However, no planting will be done at present as it would interfere in-terfere with the summer recreational recrea-tional program, but there is much to be done, such as hauling haul-ing new soil, fencing portions of the block and leveling the whole area. Council members feel that they are getting a good start toward a beautification plan which will be a great pride to the communicy. According to Mr. Schmiett, a well-rounded out recreational program is being worked out. with a director to be appointed in the near future. |
