Show Making Family Life More Fun A word that means fun for many families this year is. . . XLR-8. XLR-8, a word? It is indeed. Say it fast, out loud, and you have "accelerate," right? Accelerate Ac-celerate it does. It's the name of a new roller coaster made up of two seven, car trains that flash around a 3,000-foot track at 50 feet per second. The unique coaster was introduced in-troduced by AstroWorld in Houston, Texas to mark the 100th anniversary of the invention in-vention of roller coasters. The cars are suspended from a track above, leaving them free to float with the forces and giving riders the sensation sensa-tion of being in a airplane doing do-ing very tight turns. Passengers Passen-gers soar through space, bank exciting turns, glide over land and water far below, be-low, then quietly touch down, as the ride concludes. Making a big splash with families for the second season is WaterWorld. Every member mem-ber of the family can have a favorite ride. Daredevils love Wipe Out, the park's speed slide that begins atop a 60-foot 60-foot tower and sends guests down two flumes at speeds up to 40 miles an hour, ending end-ing with a wild splash in the pool at the bottom. River tubing fans were enchanted en-chanted by Runaway River. The climb up the hill gives riders a spectacular view of the Thunder River ride at AstroWorld. After reaching the top of the hill, tubers hop - aboard and descend down a 800-foot course through chutes, curves, rapids, five pools, and a shoot through a fiberglass trough into a splash pool. Many think this is the most unique coaster ride of the century. I it i A Thrill seekers slide downward down-ward at speeds of up to 40 miles-an-hour into a refreshing pool of water All in all, the twelve-theme world of the park gives families fam-ilies from all over the world a lot of fun they can enjoy together. |
