Show " S -.. ' '' , ' (V ' "' 1 i 1 I -7 r i f i SKATING CHAMPS Dublin, Calif., was the site for this year's St. Moritz Figure Skating Skat-ing Championships held Sept. 27-30. 27-30. The competition, one of the largest of the skating season, involved in-volved skaters from the Southwest, South-west, Northwest, and Central Pacific Paci-fic regions. This will also he the site of the Pacific Coast Championships Champion-ships in December, the final qualifying qual-ifying competition for the National Figure Skating Championships in Kansas City, Mo. ALTHOUGH only five skaters from the Utah Figure Skating Club participated, they represented the Bountiful rink very well as three of them came back wtih gold medals. In Juvenile Ladies, Heather Snitemanof Farmington placed 3rd in figures, 1st in freestyle and 1st overall. IN INTERMEDIATE Ladies, Nikki Garrett of Bountiful placed : 2nd in figures, 1st in freestyle and 1st overall. In Novice Ladies Lisa Herzog of . Salt Lake placed 4th in figures, 4th in freestyle and 4th overall while Dorothy Bowers of Salt Lake ' placed 7th in figures, 7th in freestyle frees-tyle and 7th overall. These three skaters from the Utah Figure Skating Club were first-place winners int he St. Moritz Skating Championships held Sept. 27-30 in Dublin, Calif. Holly. Cook, kneeling, of Bountiful, won the Junior Ladies Division; Nichole Garrett, left standing, also of Bountiful, Boun-tiful, was first in Intermediate Ladies; and Heather Sni-teman, Sni-teman, of Farmington, won the Juvenile Ladies Division. IN JUNIOR Ladies, Holly Cook facing some of the top Junior Ladies in the country came away with a clean sweep placing 1st in figures, 1st in short program, 1st in long program and 1st overall. For these skaters and some 20 others, the competition now moves to the Central Pacific Championships Champion-ships which will be held Nov. 15-18 in Stockton, Calif. This is the first of two qualifying competitions which will hopefully lead a few of Bountiful's finest skaters to the National Figure Skating Championships. Cham-pionships. A TEST session held at the Bountiful Recreation Center on Sept. 7 moved successful for a number of Utah Figure Skaters. In Figure Tests, Natalie Boulton passed her preliminary, Charity Gleason passed her 2nd test, Rox-anne Rox-anne Rees passed her 4th and Barbara Bar-bara Howard and Christi Cozzens passed their 5th test. IN FREESTYLE Wayne LeFevre passed his Novice Freestyle, Frees-tyle, Charity Gleason passed her Juvenioe Freestyle, and Natalie Boulton passed her Preliminary Freestyle. In Dance, Alison Rettie passed her Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango, Tan-go, Melissa Grevstad passed all three preliminary dances, Fran-cine Fran-cine Clark completed her Bronze dances, Taanya Daly passed her Fourteenstep, Janet Wadsworth passed her Fourteenstep and European Euro-pean Waltz, Nancy Hepburn passed pas-sed her American Waltz and Barbara Bar-bara Howard passed her Silver Tango. THE NEXT test session will be held in December. |
