Show Teacher Honored - '; .' ' ? ' f y'- ' ';); A WILLIAM SIMPSON William Simpson is the teacher of the month at Centerville Junior High. WILLIAM Simpson was born on the banks of the Hudson River, to parents who came to America from Scotland to find a more productive life. He grew up in Brookland with soccer being a large part of his high school years. He then joined the Air Force and spent the next 30 years Hying U-52's, being a good husband and father to his wife Gloria and their four children, two boys and two girls. Those 30 years also included some time in Korea and Vietnam. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he moved with his wife back to Utah where he decided it was time to figure out what he wanted to be now that he was all grown up. SINCE IT was too late to become a fireman or locomotive engineer, he quickly enrolled as a freshman at Weber State College where he graduated; 35 years after completing complet-ing high school. Teaching history, civics, math and refereeing soccer at Centerville Centervil-le Junior High he says has great amounts of personal satisfaction but can be frustrating at times when he can't accomplish all he would like. To quote him, "It's sort of like combat, never dull." He will try almost anything from making his voice fit the era of history his-tory to wearing a different face to wake up a particularly sleepy class; anything in order to make his class live and be useful to the student. Soccer has never left his life as he is now the state soccer referee instructor. in-structor. HE ALSO enjoys golf, traveling and visiting with his two grandchildren. grandchil-dren. Truly a friend to the students, we at Centerville Junior High recognize rec-ognize and honor him as teacher of the month for October. |
