Show Band MeifiiibKrs Join Event Bandsmen from Bountiful, Viewmonl and Woods Cross high schools will join their colleagues from 18 bands throughout Utah, Idaho and Nevada at the eighth annual Western States-University of Utah High School Marching Band Competition on the U. of U, campus Oct. Judges for the most part, however, will focus on music, marching, maneuvering, integration and use of auxiliary units and other technical tech-nical points, Prof Hanson said. Preliminary competition will be held Friday for six bands, including Bountiful High at 7:15 p.m. and Woods Cross High School at 7:45 p.m. Viewmont High's preliminary prelimin-ary judging will be on Saturday at 8 a.m., the firs! of 12 bands to compete com-pete that day. TUK I'lJIH.IC is invited to all phases of the competition, Prof. Hanson said. Friday and Saturday prelims are each $2.50 per ticket, wilh the Saturday finals priced at $3.50. A ticket for all three evenls is just $7, he noted. "Judges will be looking and listening lis-tening lor the general effect of the music and its execution," Prof. Hanson said, "along with the general gen-eral effect and execution of maneuvers man-euvers and the impact of color guards, flag teams and percussion units." Competition adjudicators include in-clude Jim Keene, director of bands, University of Arizona; George Etheridge, director of bands, Ft. Hun! High School, Alexandria, Ale-xandria, Va.; Tim I.aulzenheiser, clinician, Attitude Concepts for Today, and former director of bands, New Mexico State University; Univer-sity; Tom Float, percussion in- structor, Hlue Devils Drum and Hule Corps, Concord, Calif., and I.en Krusecki, color guard desig ner, Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, Santa Clara, Calif. |
