Show FARMERS WOULD SCALE DOWN PRICES ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 21. The American farmer Is not demanding an Increased minimum price for wheat that would mako the cost of Jiving more burdensome for the consuming public, but will be content if the prices of other commodities are scaled down In proportion, A. C. Townley, president of the National Non-Partisan league, said in a statement issued from league headquarters here today. Mr. Townley's statement, it was declared, de-clared, was prepared before news came that President Wilson had indicated opposition to bills increasing the price. Mr. Townley denied that the league would support independent bills for increasing tho price, but said it would support administration measures, Proposed increase .in the price of wheat, Mr. Townley said, would "plcaso the profiteers" who "think thoj' can boost prices" all around if they succeed in advancing the cost of primary commodities. 'The farmer would not benefit by $3 wheat if mill feeds, farm machinery' and other necessities continue to advance," ad-vance," tho statement said. oo |
