Opposition Opposi-tion to the house draft of tho administration's admin-istration's railroad bill, particularly Its provisions for compensating tho roads, determining rates and fixing the period per-iod of government rotention after the war, was voiced today by Representative Representa-tive Esch of Wisconsin, ranking Republican Re-publican member of the Interstate commerce committee Representative Esch speaking for tho minority of the committee, declared de-clared the proposed rate of compensation compensa-tion Is too high; th.at tho power to initiate in-itiate rates should rest with the interstate inter-state commerce commission rather than with the president and the roads should be returned to their owners one year or less after the proclamation of peace Instead of two years as proposed by the houso bill. 3 |
